Ching scores in overtime to lead Dynamo past Seattle, 1-0, in the MLS playoffs

Brian Ching scored in the 96th minute to give the Houston Dynamo a 1-0 overtime win over the Seattle Sounders in the first-round of the 2009 MLS playoffs. It was the only goal of the two-match series as the teams tied 0-0 in Seattle a week earlier.

“I just kind of saw the ball fall to me, my eyes lit up and I probably never hit a sweeter shot that that,” Ching told reporters after the match. Ching’s volley was the result of a cross from teammate Mike Chabala which was keep alive by Brian Mullan.

The Dynamo will face the LA Galaxy in Los Angeles on Friday, Nov. 13 in the Western Conference Final. The winner will advance to the MLS Cup on Nov. 22 in Seattle where they will face either the Chicago Fire or Real Salt Lake.
