When dissecting the only losing season in Dynamo history last year, Brian Ching looked in the mirror first and committed to being a stronger, more vocal and efficient leader.

The team’s all-time leading scorer and captain, Ching also became the head of the welcome committee for a 2011 Dynamo squad that is one victory away from the MLS Cup title game. All-Star midfielder Brad Davis, a top MLS MVP candidate, has carried the club this season. But Ching set the tone and expectations ahead of the Eastern Conference final against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday at Livestrong Sporting Park.

So as coach Dominic Kinnear and president Chris Canetti turned the oldest team in MLS in 2010 into one of the youngest in the offseason, Ching requested the phone number for each new player. Soon after each move, Ching called to introduce himself to his new teammates. He went out of his way to attend the introductory news conferences for rookies Will Bruin, Kofi Sarkodie, Alex Dixon and Josue Soto in January to emphasize his dedication and, more importantly, the Dynamo way.
