“Brian Ching changes mind, joins Impact for MLS training camp”
Brian Ching appears to have had a change of heart, which could be a good thing for the Montreal Impact.
The talented veteran forward was among 23 players on the field Monday for the opening day of training camp for Major League Soccer’s newest team.
Ching was Montreal’s first pick at the league’s expansion draft in November, but at the time the 33-year-old Houston Dynamo captain, and the club’s all-time leading scorer, vowed he would retire before joining the Impact for its inaugural MLS season.
“I’ll be completely honest with you guys,” Ching told a huge media throng Monday. “I would have loved to finish my career in Houston, especially because they’re opening up a new stadium there. It was something I was planning on. But I’m a professional, and sometimes you don’t always get what you want.
“Over the past two months, I’ve come to deal with it and I have come to this city to play for my teammates and fans. I can’t thank the fans enough, those who reached out to me over Twitter to wish me nothing but good luck here.
“For me, it’s about being a professional and winning games. It doesn’t matter where I’m at. I’m a competitive guy and I’m going to give everything I can.”
